World of Warcraft - Addiction Or Not?

Can an internet game cause and addiction? From my knowledge, only

something interacting with your body chemistry can cause addictions,

i.e. smoking, drinking, drugs, etc…So can an electronic game cause you

to become addicted. According to this youtube video, it can. I don’t

believe it can though and would like your thoughts on this issue.

What age groups of people do you think can become most ‘addicted’

to World of Warcraft. Young adults, adults? Please leave your comments.

It seems likely to me that a game could cause addiction. It is not because of additional chemicals being put into the body as with substance abuse but because playing the game causes your body to release chemicals into your bloodstream. Thrill seekers are often called adrenaline junkies, addicted to the rush that danger causes them to feel. I believe we often watch TV and movies that put us in the action or the story and we “feel” the emotions as if it were a true experience that is really happening to us. So while the game may not be truly addicting the feelings that we get from being immersed in the game may be. Just my take on the question. BTW good stuff. Keep it up!
